This Triplett 3423 tube tester is the 'little brother' of the famous 3444 series of testers. Like the 3444 the 3423 has the following features:
selectable plate voltages up to 250v
an actual oscillator circuit for the Gm test
selectable Gm ranges as well as an emissions range
selectable signal voltage
These features all set the 3423 and 3444 above most of the other vintage testers. The 3423 is superior to nearly all Hickok testers.
Many vintage testers fail to accurately describe the condition of the common 12AX7 tube. In most cases, the problem seems to be that the tester swaps the 12AX7 with a huge signal which overdrives the tube and skews the results. Not the 3444 and the 3423. Due to their sensible oscillator signal and superior circuit, 12AX7 tubes can be meaningfully characterized on these testers.
If you test a lot of tubes and are currently using a Hickok to test 12AX7's, do yourself a favor and get a 3423 or 3444 for 12AX7's and other tubes with similar characteristics.
*Weak tubes test as weak
*Strong tubes test as strong
*Mediocre tubes test near the minimum value
Not much more you can ask for from a vintage tube tester.

All testers (less the one Mercury 2000) work as intended, are in good to excellent physical cosmetic condition and in good working condition. They've been cleaned with DeOxit, parts replaced as needed and thoroughly tested.
